The A380 Asia-Pacific customer list expands with Skymark Airlines’ four-aircraft acquisition

Airbus has added another Asia-Pacific operator – and the first in Japan – to the A380 customer list with Skymark Airlines’ order for four of the 21st century flagship jetliners.

The Skymark Airlines order – signed on 17 February at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France – brings A380 customers to 19 and total bookings to 244. Other Asia-Pacific carriers selecting the A380 are Asiana Airlines, China Southern, Korea Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways.

Skymark Airlines is Japan’s third largest carrier, and it will operate the A380 on major international long-haul routes from Tokyo – a key destination that already is served by A380s from Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and Air France.

The A380 is in service today with five international carriers, carrying over 10 million passengers since the beginning of commercial flights in 2007. The fleet has logged almost 250,000 revenue flight hours in nearly 28,000 commercial operations, with 20 major airports currently served.
