EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering opens new maintenance center in Marsa Alam Airport






Al Kharafi Group selected EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering Company to establish a maintenance center in Marsa Alam International Airport. This maintenance center will be established after the increase of the flight numbers that amounted to 8544 flights and it is expected that the number will increase to 10,000 flights by the end of this year. The contract was signed between Eng Abdel Aziz Fadel, EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering Chairman, and Eng Ibrahim Saleh, Al Kharafi President in Egypt. The selection of EgyptAir Maintenance & Engineering came as a result of the worldwide reputation and the great experience of the company in the aircraft maintenance field.

In the beginning of February 2011, the company will start the first phase of providing the line maintenance service for the A320 families and Boeing 737 Classic and the new generations. By 2015, the base maintenance for light checks for A320 & B737 classic and new generations. In this phase, the company’s plan is to establish a 3-slot hangar for narrow bodies. The new station’s investments are around 50 millions USD. It is planned to have EASA and FAA Certificates for this station before the first week of February 2011.

Noteworthy, Marsa Alam Airport is 60km north away from Marsa Alam City. It is the first privately owned and operated airport in Egypt and it is the first airport in aviation history operating under a complete BOT system. EMAK Marsa Alam for Management & Operation of Airport SAE, a subsidiary of AL Kharafi Group of Kuwait, has successfully negotiated a 40-year BOT contract with the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority. This airport is established to support the increasing tourism in the Red Sea and it receives Boeing 737, 757 and 767 aircraft.
