New engine for IAI's Searcher 3 UAV

By Arie Egozi

Israel Aerospace Industries' Searcher 3 unmanned air vehicle has been equipped with an Australian Jabiru engine.

The Jabiru engine allows the Searcher 3 to operate at an altitude of 20,000ft (6,100m) and to emit less noise.

It has been equipped with a new propeller, which according to the IAI Malat division's director of marketing in Europe, Orna Shemesh, enables quieter flight with fewer revolutions per minute.

The Searcher 3 has a wingspan of 8.5m, a mission radius of 300km (162nm), a 20h endurance and a maximum take-off weight of 436kg (961lb). Its maximum payload weight is 120kg with the new version having an improved avionics suite and enhanced payload manufactured by Tamam, says Shemesh.
