SkyTeam to restructure governance under new manager

By David Kaminski-Morrow

SkyTeam members have unveiled a new Amsterdam-based governing structure for the alliance which includes the appointment of Air France executive Marie-Joseph Malé as managing director.

The alliance detailed the arrangements during a briefing by its steering committee in Milan today.

SkyTeam will have a centralised management structure, based in the Netherlands, which will handle marketing and sales, finance, alliance operations and administration, cargo and airport synergies.

"Given the changing landscape and the increased number of alliance members, we decided to adopt an organisational structure that allows us to navigate market realities more effectively," says SkyTeam governing board chairman Leo van Wijk.

Marie-Joseph Malé, who has served as Air France's managers for Asia-Pacific and the USA, will take responsibility for appointing a management team and finalising the structure by the end of this year.

He says: "My main objective is to maintain the level of collaboration that helped the alliance achieve so much, but also ensure that the alliance is nimble and ready to act on future opportunities."
