Southwest picks up additional LaGuardia slot from FAA

By Lori Ranson

Southwest Airlines says it negotiated an additional slot with FAA to support its eighth daily flight at LaGuardia airport it plans to launch in June.

A carrier spokesman said Southwest secured an additional slot that is essentially outside of slot-controlled times at the airport, as it is "an off-peak hours, late night arrival into LaGuardia".

Southwest secured its other slots at LaGuardia in a $7.5 million deal to purchase the take-off and landing rights from its previous codeshare partner ATA Airlines, who ceased operations in April 2008.

The carrier's five daily roundtrip flights to Chicago and three daily flights to Baltimore begin 28 June.
