Spirit AeroSystems Enacts Salary Freeze

Spirit AeroSystems, the Wichita-based supplier of airplane assemblies and components, has enacted a salary freeze for its board, its executives, and managerial and salaried payroll workers, effective immediately. The move affects 1,800 of the company's 14,000 employees worldwide.

The economic downturn has yet not affected Spirit AeroSystems' business as deeply as others in the industry, said spokesman Ken Evans. "Our leadership believes it is important, however, that we remain cautious and prepared for potential future impacts by prudently managing costs in as many innovative ways as possible, rather than resorting immediately to layoffs," he said. "Our CEO and Board of Directors agreed it would be good for them to set the tone and lead the way in this effort with the salary freeze."
