Embraer partners with Air France Industries in signing a material service contract with Alitalia

Five-year Flight Hour Pool Program will support the airline’s EMBRAER 170 jets

São José dos Campos, September 23, 2010 – Embraer and Air France Industries have signed a five-year Flight Hour Pool Program contract with Italy’s leading carrier Alitalia – Compagnia Aerea Italiana to support their fleet of six EMBRAER 170 jets. Under terms of the agreement, Alitalia will benefit from the cross-product expertise of both the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and the maintenance services of Air France Industries.

“We are pleased to welcome Alitalia as a valued member of our Flight Hour Pool Program, through our strong business alliance with Air France Industries,” said Leandro Laia, Embraer Vice President, Customer Support and Services – Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

“Building on the successful support the organization has given to France’s Regional and the Netherlands’ KLM Cityhopper, we are all the more delighted to add a new family member of the SkyTeam Group, especially since Alitalia was one of the launch customers of the EMBRAER 170 in Europe.”

Consisting of on-site and exchange inventory and repair management, Embraer’s pool program enables airlines, even with small fleets, to take maximum advantage of economy of scale, with improved spare parts availability at large fleet provisioning costs. It helps reduce investment in parts inventories, controls costs, minimizes the risk of surplus – thus cutting overhead requirements, and reduces repair and overhaul (R&O) costs with guaranteed and unlimited access to exchange parts inventory.

The program also improves fleet service levels through the high availability of spares on offer at a convenient one-stop-shopping facility. By providing the airline with quick and extensive spare parts replacement, it greatly reduces the need for warehousing facilities and inventory management expenses, enabling operators to budget more carefully.

“We are very glad to join the Embraer Flight Hour Pool Program,” said Fabio Schinelli, Marketing, Planning and Contract Management Director at Alitalia Servizi. “In such a competitive market, we are convinced that it is the right solution. We can now rely on a toplevel maintenance package that will enable us to efficiently and intensively operate our E-Jets fleet, while optimizing costs.”

“This cooperation in the Flight Hour Pool Program allows us to expand our maintenance activities among Embraer operators,” said Franck Terner, Vice President, Air France Industries. “With our cross-product expertise, we can guarantee the best maintenance solution to our loyal friends at Alitalia to help them optimize the operation of their E-Jets fleet and other aircraft types.”
