Embraer delivers 800th E-Jet to China CDB Leasing

Aircraft will join China Southern Airlines’ E-Jets fleet in China’s Xinjiang region .

São José dos Campos, September 2011 – Embraer’s E-Jets program reaches a significant milestone with the delivery of the 800th aircraft – an EMBRAER 190 in a tripartite ceremony held yesterday at the Company’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil, between Embraer, the aircraft’s recipient CDB Leasing Co., Ltd. (CLC), and the jet’s operator China Southern Air Holding Xinjiang Company, a subsidiary of China Southern Airlines, which is the largest airline in Asia and the fourth in the world in terms of traffic volume. The milestone was attained less than one year after the 700th E-Jet was delivered last November 2010.

The aircraft, the third EMBRAER 190 to be operated by China Southern Airlines, will join the airlines’ EMBRAER 190 fleet in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, which is expected to reach seven EMBRAER 190s by the end of this year. In accordance with current plan, taking advantage of the EMBRAER 190’s seating capacity and range performance, the fleet will support the operator to implement both domestic and international routes, including regional routes inside Xinjiang region, some hot routes eastbound from Xinjiang’s Urumqi, and some international routes to neighboring countries, as well, to assist the operator to expand its air transport network and increase its market share by building a hub and spoke network with convenient high-frequency schedules.

“The 800th E-Jet delivery marks a significant milestone for Embraer. The mark was achieved about seven years after the first E-Jets entered revenue service in 2004, which eloquently proves the success of the E-Jets program in the worldwide commercial aviation market,” said Paulo César de Souza e Silva, President, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “Moreover, we are especially proud that CDB Leasing Co., Ltd., one of China’s leading industrial players, and China Southern Airlines, an internationally renowned airline, contribute to this historical success by taking delivery of this aircraft."

“It is our honor to be a part of Embraer’s historical moments by receiving Embraer’s 800th E-Jet,” said Xu Shide, General Manager of CLC’s Aviation Business Department. “Within just a few years, the E-Jets family has achieved worldwide success, which demonstrates the fact that E-Jets satisfy airline market demands. We believe, with China Southern Airlines’ expertise in the aviation industry, the E-Jets will play an important role in boosting air transport development in the Xinjiang region.”

“We are very glad to be the operator of Embraer’s 800th E-Jet. The EMBRAER 190’s seating capacity and versatile business models support the company to optimize the management of its existing fleet and to expand the network to neighboring countries, which ultimately contributes to the company’s strategic market development. With more EMBRAER 190s to be fully in operation in this region, the EMBRAER 190 fleet will help expedite the development of Urumqi as a hub airport in western China,” said Yang Bensen, Party Secretary of China Southern Air Holding Xinjiang Company.

EMBRAER 190 is the third of four members of Embraer’s E-Jets family. To date, more than 40 EMBRAER 190s are delivered to the Chinese market since the jet’s entry into this market in 2008. The E-Jets family has registered over 1,000 firm orders, with 800 aircraft in operation by 60 airlines in 40 countries worldwide, helping airlines to right size their fleet, to replace older and inefficient aircraft, and to develop new markets with lower operating costs.
