Esterline CMC Electronics Introduces new Software Suite for Electronic Flight Bags and PDAs

(National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) – October 2011) Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) is showcasing TANDEM - an innovative application that combines the communication and file processing capabilities of PDAs such as the iPad with CMC’s PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) products.

TANDEM is an intuitive productivity tool for pilots and crews that supports their flight planning, briefing and EFB applications data management activities. It will benefit operators wanting to make optimal use of their PC tablets or PDAs on the ground and their Class 2/3 installed EFBs on board the aircraft. TANDEM allows users to leverage the capabilities of advanced PDAs in terms of applications, connectivity (Wi-Fi,3/4G) and data storage support.

Jim Palmer, vice-president, aviation products, Esterline CMC Electronics, stated: “Our new PilotView TANDEM software is an ideal companion for installed PilotView EFBs and advanced cockpit crew applications. As Class 2/3 EFBs are increasingly integrated with other aircraft systems and enabling applications in all phases of flight, the iPad and other PDAs can serve as practical companions to CMC’s installed PilotView systems.”

The CMC PilotView EFB system offers a wide range of features and field-proven applications that include charting, electronic documentation, en-route real-time weather moving maps, camera surveillance, and aircraft data monitoring and reporting. CMC’s EFB solution integrates with the ACSS Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) sensor technology and SafeRoute applications to deliver airport moving map with own-ship position for enhanced situational awareness during airport taxiing. The PilotView EFB is also approved for real-time ACARS messaging over VHF-based and satellite services.

The PilotView EFB system offers one-touch situational awareness and a best in class, film-on-glass touchscreen for superior readability. Certified for Class 2 and Class 3 usage, PilotView is the electronic flight bag preferred by OEMs. In addition, over 25 STCs are available for the PilotView EFB on aircraft ranging from the Gulfstream GlV/GV, the Bombardier Challenger and Global Express/XRS, to the Boeing 737. PilotView is offered as a standard option by Dassault and ATR, by Embraer for the Legacy 600/650 and E-170/190 programs, by Bombardier for the CRJ700/900/1000, and by Boeing for the Next-Generation B-737s and BBJs.
