Plane Carrying 11 Crashes In Indonesia's Papua


A plane carrying 11 people crashed into a mountain in Indonesia's Papua province on Friday shortly after take off, police said.

Rescuers were on the way to the scene of the crash, and it was unclear if there were any survivors.

Two crew members and nine passengers, including a 3-year-old boy were on board, Puncak Jaya police chief, Chris Rihulay said.

The wreckage of the Pilatus plane operated by Mimika Air was found on Mount Geraji, in between the cities of Kota Mulia and Ilaga, said Rihulay.

Indonesia has suffered a series of air disasters in recent years, leading to a ban on all its airlines from European Union airspace.
