Lufthansa regional operator Augsburg Airways has received the first of five Embraer 195 aircraft, part of a batch of 30 ordered by the German flag-carrier two years ago.

Augsburg Airways, previously an all-turboprop operator with Bombardier Q300/400s, is taking the aircraft with a 116-seat dual-class configuration.

"We are eager to introduce the Embraer 195, the first jet in our fleet, since it is economically efficient and has an undeniably high level of comfort," says Augsburg Airways managing director Bernadette Rampl.

Embraer 195s have already been delivered to Lufthansa's Italian partner, Air Dolomiti, which has been assigned five of the 30.

Regional carrier Lufthansa CityLine is taking the other 20 Embraers.

Introduction of the Embraer aircraft is part of a broad overhaul of Lufthansa's regional fleet which also involves bringing in Bombardier's larger CRJs variants at Eurowings and its CSeries twin-jet at Swiss International Air Lines.
