Airbus wins a Crystal Cabin Award for “Digital Cabin Logbook”

Airbus has won the Crystal Cabin Award in the Material and Components category for the “Digital Cabin Logbook” which it has developed. The award was made at the 2010 Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany.

Digital Cabin Logbook

The Digital Cabin Logbook (DCL), which has been made possible by the latest IT-technologies both ‘on-ground’ and ‘on-board’, provides commercial benefits for cabin operation by the airlines. One of the main advantages is the standardised ‘cabin defect reporting’ whereby the cabin crew can select from a standard ‘defect catalogue’, which is customised according to cabin configuration.

For selection of the location of a cabin defect, the user is guided via an intuitive, web-based graphical user interface. The selected and stored standardised defect reports can be submitted to the ground while the aircraft is still flying. This improves aircraft operational dispatch reliability because the logistics for repair can be ready even before the aircraft arrives at its destination.

The DCL is part of Airbus’ integrated product “e-Logbook”, and is thus a key link of the “e-process” chain, with interfaces to the technical and maintenance logbook to ensure integration with cockpit and maintenance related processes.

The Crystal Cabin Award is the leading international award for excellence in aircraft interior innovation, donated by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Sixty-four applicants from 13 different nations entered their latest innovations in the competition across six categories.
