The first stage of project on MES-system MCIS Implementation by Siemens at the Russian Proton-PM space and rocket Enterprise

(Minsk, Belarus) & (Moscow, Russia), 2011: ─ The pilot project of a manufacturing execution system implementation specially developed by Siemens AG for discrete manufacture has come closer to its basic operating stage by breadboard model delivery on Proton-PM (Perm Motors) Public Corporation, one of the largest enterprises of the space and rocket industry of the Russian Federation.

MES and APS-systems Dpt. of SITEK Group, a provider of adaptive operations execution software solutions and advanced planning systems for manufacturing organizations in Russia, Europe and CIS, the main Competence center on MES-systems authorized by Siemens AG and the Russian Proton-PM (Perm Motors) space and rocket industry enterprise performed the next stage of the ongoing project having finished the system engineering by successful delivery of a test example on MCIS (Motion Control Information System) breadboard model on December 23rd , 2010. The MCIS project aims to increase production management efficiency, maintenance of scheduling and manufacture by implementation of continuous automatic control of the process equipment and manufacture transparency, productivity analysis, service maintenance management and technology of details processing.

In order to create a single information system at Proton-PM (Perm Motors) three modules of MCIS (Motion Control Information System) will be implemented. These are: MDA (Machine Data Acquisition, i.e. the function package acquires the machine data and statuses as well as part-specific information automatically or manually and offers a lot of functions required to analyze and evaluate this data); DNC (Direct Numeric Control, i.e. networking computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools); TPM (Total Productive Maintenance, i.e. management system for optimizing the productivity of manufacturing equipment through systematic equipment maintenance involving employees at all levels). The demonstration breadboard model of information system included MCIS server and the equipment that simulated the real equipment of the Customer working under control of SIMATIC industrial controllers and systems of numerical control Sinumerik 840D by Siemens.

The project start became possible thanks to the declared tender for the pilot project of MES-system installation which the industrial holding SITEK Group won in 2010. Later MES and APS-systems Dpt. of SITEK Group started work on MCIS implementation at Proton-PM. Experts of the department have successful experience of large-scale projects both in Russia and CIS countries. The contract on implementation of the pilot project on creation of a single information system on MCIS basis at one of Proton-PM production shops was agreed.

According to the contract predesign investigation of all metalcutting equipment furnished with the digital NC system for highly sophisticated tasks Sinumerik 840D by Siemens was performed. The metalcutting machines with Sinumerik 840D was bought according to «The program of the manufacture modernization» initiated in 2007 by Igor Arbuzov, present CEO of Proton-PM enterprise.

Vitaliy Semenov, Deputy Development and IT director, commented on the MCIS project: «The aerospace industry has important political and economic value. It defines industrial potential and prestige of the state. To make effective administrative decisions in modern manufacture demands complex interaction of financial, economic and industrial components. One of the major directions of Proton-PM development today is ERP information system construction, perfection of the enterprise control system providing the operative solution of all production tasks. We hope that these problems will be successfully solved with the help of MCIS system integrated by SITEK Group. All preliminary work now is performed. The functional breadboard model is also accepted. The following step according to the contract is to provide the MCIS system integration directly into the equipment which will be done in the near future».

Dmitry Shchenjatsky, Chief Engineer of Proton-PM (Perm Motors) added: «According to the technical project it was required to implement monitoring of the equipment current work and automatic analytical reporting, control of realization of the equipment maintenance service and control of observance of processing parameters requirements. According to the listed requirements now we witness MCIS modules implementation: MDA, DNC and TPM. Regarding our plans for the future I can mention further expansion of the system functional, its scaling and communications integration with implemented ERP-system SAP R3».

Throughout last years Russian Federation keeps half of starting services world market. As of August 1st 2010 nine carrier rockets start-ups by Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center manufacture were carried out. These are 7 launches of carrier rockets «Proton» when 9 spacecrafts have been placed into orbit: 5 space vehicles «Intelsat-16», «Echostar-14», «AMC-4R» (SES-1), «Arabsat-5B» (BADR-5), «Echostar-15» initiated by a foreign customer; 3 spacecrafts «Glonass» initiated for expansion of «Glonass» satellite grouping; 1 space vehicle for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation; 1 start-up of the carrier rocket «Rokot» when Japanese space vehicle «Servis-2» was carried into orbit; 1 start-up of the carrier rocket «Kosmos-3M» when a spacecraft for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation was put into orbit.

Now Russia witness stable financing of the Federal space program by the state and domestic enterprises of the aerospace industry as well as a great interest of foreign customers.

Proton-PM (Perm Motors) Public Corporation is one of the largest enterprises of space and rocket industry of the Russian Federation, a part of Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center. The main production is liquid rocket engines RD-276 which are used as power installation of the first step of heavy class carrier rockets «Proton». Four and a half thousand (4,5) employees provide high competitiveness of Russia on the market of world starting services.

Siemens AG (Berlin and Munich) is a world leader in electronics and electrical engineering. The concern operates in areas such as industry and energy, as well as in healthcare. Moreover Siemens is the world's largest supplier of environmentally safe technologies. More than 405 000 employees develop and manufacture products, design and build equipment and systems offering tailored solutions for specific customers. More than 160 years Siemens stands for technical progress, innovation, quality, reliability and international cooperation.
