Iberia and British Airways have no pre-determined deadline to complete merger talks, the Spanish carrier said on Wednesday, but added it was closely watching what burden BA's pension fund would impose as part of the merger process.

"There is not an established speed (for the merger) and we don't have pre-arranged dates," Chairman Fernando Conte told a news conference before its annual shareholders meeting.

"It's certainly important for us (to see) what the result of negotiations between British Airways and the pension fund will be. It is certainly a very important issue," he said referring to discussions between BA and the fund on how much the airline contributes to the plan.
